Theyyam Festival at Kangol Kalari Bhagavathi Kshethram, Kannur District

Date:25-31 Dec 2025; Kaliyattam at Kangol Kalari Bhagavathi Kshethram with ritual folk performances Theyyam/Thira, Vellattam, Thottam and other ceremonial processions and rituals.

25 Dec- The ceremonial start of the festival

26 Dec-Evening: The main performances on the second day are Pulikandan Vellattam  (8pm), Thottams and Pulikandan Theyyam (by midnight). 

27 Dec-Morning (from 9am to noon): performances are Vellarangara Bhagavathi Theyyam, Vishnumoorthy Theyyam, Panayakkattu Bhagavathi Theyyam and Pulikandan Vellattam (7pm) after sunset.

28 Dec-Morning (from 9am to noon): Fourth day performances are Vellarangara Bhagavathi Theyyam, Vishnumoorthy Theyyam, Panayakkattu Bhagavathi Theyyam and Pulikandan Vellattam (7pm) after sunset.

29 Dec- Morning  (from 9am to noon): Theyyam performances of Vellarangara Bhagavathi, Vishnumoorthy and Panayakkattu Bhagavathi. Evening: Pulikandan Vellattam (7pm), followed by Thottams of Vellarangara Bhagavathi, Vishnumoorthy, Panayakkattu Bhagavathi. Then by mid night Paathira Kaliyattam.

30 Dec-Evening: Performances of  Pulikandan Vellattam (7pm), Thalappoli, followed by Thottams of Vellarangara Bhagavathi, Vishnumoorthy, Panayakkattu Bhagavathi. Then by mid night performance of the Theyyam Pulikandan.

31 Dec- Concluding day - Morning(9am to noon): Vellarangara Bhagavathi Theyyam, Vishnumoorthy Theyyam and Panayakkattu Bhagavathi Theyyam are performed on this day.

Location/access:   Kangol Kalari is situated near Kangol Shiva Kshethram, which is about 7km north of Payyannur and 3.5km from Kothayimukku.  From Payyannur, on NH, towards Mangalore, take diversion from Kothayi Mukku to Kangol (Cheemeni Road).
